Jacob 'Jake' Haagsma

HAAGSMA, Jacob “Jake”
June 23, 1933 – June 9, 2026

It is with great sadness that the family of

Jacob “Jake” Haagsma

announce his passing on June 9, 2026,

at the age of 92.

Born in Holland to the late Inne and Jantje (Fisher) Haagsma,

Jake was the beloved husband of Carol (Simpson) for 69 wonderful years.

He was a loving father to Rickey (Rick) of Carrying Place, Robert (Bob) of Carrying Place (BettyLou), Maryann Turner (Jim) of Frankford,

and William (Billy) of Tyendinaga. He was a proud grandfather to Mathew, Jessie, Peter, and Taralee, and five great grandchildren.

Jake spent many years as a road superintendent with McFarland’s Construction and later with Wimpey Construction.

Following his retirement, he continued to share his expertise as a consultant with Jewel Engineering. He took great pride in his

work and always enjoyed sharing stories from the many job sites he managed throughout his career.

A hardworking and honest man, Jake built a life centered on family, dedication, and perseverance.

He had a deep love for animals and successfully raised award-winning chinchillas and exotic birds.

An avid hockey fan, he rarely missed a game and found great joy cheering on his favorite teams.

He also enjoyed spending time in his garage—his “happy place”—where he designed and built several custom vehicles as a hobby.

Jake will be remembered for his easy-going nature, cheerful disposition, and kind heart.

His warmth, humor, and generosity touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends,

and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to their neighbour’s,

the McDonald family, for their friendship, kindness, and support over the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

Forever loved, forever remembered.
