Carmen Ruth Mason

Carmen Ruth Mason (née Ruddock)

December 1, 1943 – June 28, 2026

Peacefully in Picton, Ontario, on Sunday, June 28,

in her eighty-third year.

Survived by her beloved husband of sixty-one years, the Right Rev. Dr. Peter Mason;

children Patricia Mason (Dan), Sarah Peake (Gerry), and Paul Mason (Robin);
grandsons Daniel Peake (Bella) and Tom Peake (Shannon) and their father Stephen Peake, and Matthew Smith (Damla) and James Smith (Kendra). Fondly remembered by her siblings-in-law Andy and Ann Mason, Rick and Lucie Mason, and Nancy and John Lester.

Predeceased by her loving parents Stanley and Ella Ruddock.

It is difficult to categorize and list the many people whose lives Carmen touched:

the Ruddock, Rainey, and Clemenger families; many other Masons, Smiths, Peakes, and Lesters, including cousins, nieces, and nephews;

so many friends and former parishioners from Quebec, Nova Scotia, and all across Ontario; former colleagues and friends

from Wycliffe College; and especially dear friends from Prince Edward County, which was their home for the last 30 years.

Carmen Mason was born in Huntingdon, Quebec in 1943 and attended Huntingdon Academy where she earned the

Birks Medal for academic excellence. Trained as a nurse at Montreal General Hospital, Carmen worked in several nursing roles,

and in community service and parish church administration. But her number one job was as Peter’s faithful partner in their life of

ministry together. She loved music and played the piano and sang in choirs. She organized and hosted large events,

but was also always happy to put the kettle on to sit and visit and lend support to anyone.

 All who knew her loved her contagious smile and her listening ear. Carmen’s life was grounded in her faith in Christ

and this was the basis of her exemplary love, care, generosity of spirit, and acceptance of others for which

she will be remembered and deeply missed.
