Howard Laverne Norton
passed peacefully August 30, 2026
at Downsview Long Term Care in Toronto, ON.
Howard was born and raised in the County working on the family farm during high school.
He joined the RCAF and trained at Clinton, Ontario and eventually left Grande Prairie, Alberta as a trained Radar operator.
After his time in the service, he returned to Prince Edward County. He worked at Essroc Ltd for 31 years, retiring early in 1997.
He enjoyed fishing around the County and playing golf at the Picton and Wellington golf courses, reading and working on the Norton family genealogy. Howard and Darrell spent several winters in Florida to escape the cold. Howard mentored young gold players while he lived in Wellington. Each year, his aim was to play golf enough days to make the average golf round cost less than $4 – that surely took many
days and kept him from being underfoot at home.
Howard was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Ada (Stark) Norton and his wife Ellen “Darrell” (Pringle) Norton.
Survived by his siblings Marilyn (Norton) Martin, Gordon and Larry Norton, his children Barbara (Eric) Langille and Allan Norton,
his grandchildren Michael, Annemarie, Steven and Matthew Norton, his niece Emily Norton and his
beloved Aunt Margaret (Norton) Blakely and many cousins.
A Gravesite ceremony to be held at Cherry Valley United Church Cemetery,
1699 County Road #10, Cherry Valley, ON on September 25, 2026 at 1 pm. and
followed by refreshments at the Picton Masonic Hall, 13251 Loyalist Parkway, Picton, ON (W. of Cold Storage Rd).
