Minnie Christina Root (nee McIntyre)

July 8th, 1935 – September 23rd, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of

Minnie Christina Root (nee McIntyre)

on Wednesday September 23rd, 2026

at the age of 91, at Hallowell House in Picton.

Beloved wife of the late Earl Root of 62 years.

Loving mother of Betty (Dan) Cole of Corbyville, and Brenda (Mike) Root of Rossmore.

Cherished Grandmother of Grant Cole, Tristan Carroll and Brayden Carroll.

Minnie is predeceased by her parents Edward and Aletha McIntyre, brothers Gerald (Mary Lou), Fred, and sisters Carolyn and Wanda (Allen).

Minnie is survived by sisters Una (late Stan), Margaret (late Dominic) and Bill (Colleen).

Minnie will be lovingly remembered by many other family members including nieces and nephews, along with friends and neighbours.

Minnie was born in Melville near Consecon Lake. She grew up caring for younger siblings and elderly neighbours.

She taught Sunday School at the Melville Church and played the piano. She often fished in the local creek growing up.

She worked at Northern Electric, and later at the Wellington Mushroom Farm.

Alongside Earl, she was a very integral part of the dairy farm that they owned in Hillier.

They loved playing cards with friends, enjoying home cooked meals with family and friends, and she was an avid hockey fan.

She loved the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sidney Crosby was her favourite hockey player.

Minnie was a hardworking and beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt and cherished friend. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love her.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hallowell House in Picton, for providing Minnie a home away from home for the time she was there.

Their kindness and compassion to her and the family was very much appreciated and will never be forgotten.
